WIA NEXT – Pathway to Pro
Next Intake: August 2025
Westcastle International Academy (WIA) is proud to introduce the Pathway to Pro Program, a professional 10-month soccer initiative aimed at players 17-20 years old.
This program is designed to provide ambitious soccer players with the opportunity to enhance their competitive experience and prepare for collegiate opportunities in Canada and the U.S., as well as semi-professional and professional soccer careers in European countries, particularly Sweden, known for its strong soccer development programs and leagues.
The team plays in the VISL and the PCSL to give young players the experience of playing against men in a competitive environment. Getting time against men early helps players adjust faster when they move to college and pro.
KEY COMPONENTS
- 3x WIA Professional Training Sessions/Week: Comprehensive focus on technical, tactical, physical, and mental aspects of soccer.
- 1x Whitecaps – Caps to College session
- 1x Individual Development Plan session: Customized training plans tailored to enhance each player’s specific skills.
- Fitness and Conditioning: 8 fitness assessments with conditioning regimens to optimize performance.
- League Participation: Compete in the Westcoast League U17 or Vancouver Island Soccer League (VISL) and the Pacific Coast Soccer League (PCSL) to gain invaluable match experience. This program is open to all players but level of competition is determined by the Managing Director.
- College Showcase: Entry into local College showcases
- Experienced Coaching Staff: Led by UEFA and Canada Soccer Licensed coaches with extensive professional experience in player development.
- Mentorship: Session with a former professional player and coach to provide guidance and support.
- Outreach Programs: Engage with local communities to build character and leadership skills through volunteer youth soccer coaching initiatives.
- Where needed collaboration with local educational institutions to ensure academic support while pursuing soccer goals with WIA.
- Boys U17 and U19 Training Camp and Exhibition Games: July – Aug Halmstad, Sweden
- Opportunities to train and play in front of scouts in Sweden through our collaboration with Halmstads BK.
- Players will have the choice to showcase their talents to 1st, 2nd and 3rd Division clubs in Sweden for 10 days, providing valuable exposure to international competition.
- Players may have an exciting opportunity to spend a year or two in Sweden as part of a football and cultural program. This experience not only offers professional training and development but may also open doors to securing a professional contract.
- International Exposure: Compete in a professional setting to enhance skills and visibility.
- Networking Opportunities: Forge relationships with coaches and scouts from European clubs for future career prospects.
- Cultural Experience: Immerse yourself in different soccer cultures, gaining insights into diverse playing styles and training methodologies.
- Eligibility: Open to players aged 15-20 with a strong competitive background and ambition to pursue a professional soccer career.
- Commitment: Full-time participation is required, including training sessions, matches, and additional workshops.
- Showcase Tournament: Opportunity to participate in the Whitecaps FC Showcase in front of NCAA and U Sport coaches
- Recruitment Strategy: Develop a player profile and video for the Whitecaps FC recruiting portal
Sept 2025 – June 2026
- Program Tuition: This program is funded through private sponsorship and student tuition – $6,500 plus GST
- Full Program: 3x WIA sessions/week, plus 1x session/week Caps to College, plus 1x IDP session/week, plus 8 Speed Mechanics sessions & 10 day Sweden Training Camp (breakfast, showcase games, charter bus travel for games within Sweden)
- Competition: Players will compete in the Westcoast League or VISL/PCSL (this program is open to all players but level of competition is determined by the Managing Director)
- Fees Exclude: All housing expenses for out of town players in Victoria, airfare travel to Sweden, Caps to College Showcase training kit, any showcase tournaments travel/hotel/ food and any personal expenses.
