APPLICATIONS – YOUTH PLAYERS
WIA offers FREE
- Experience WIA Camps (U10 – U13)
- Player ID Camps (U14 +) for players interested in joining any of our programs.
HOW IT WORKS
Players interested in joining WIA are encouraged to begin their journey through one of our seasonal entry points, which align with Canada Soccer’s development-focused approach.
Pre-Season Entry (April–August, division dependent):
- U10–U13 players can attend an Experience WIA Camp, where they participate in training, meet our coaches, and assess if our program is a good fit.
- U14 and older players participate in an ID Camp, were Technical staff assess and determin the appropriate placement within our program structure.
In-Season Entry:
Once the season has begun, players can complete an Expression of Interest form. If space is available, WIA will reach out to schedule a training session so the player can experience the environment and the technical team can assess developmental readiness. Next steps—including placement options—are then discussed with the family.
Rolling Placement Invitations:
After each Experience Camp, ID Camp, or in-season training session, WIA provides rolling placement, ensuring players are placed in a suitable developmental environment while maintaining the appropriate coach-to-player ratios.
This process allows every player to be welcomed, assessed, and placed thoughtfully, supporting long-term development and overall enjoyment of the game.
SELECTION CRITERIA
- Commitment to the program: Your dedication to training, games, and team involvement.
- Psycho-social Qualities: Includes focus, attitude, coachability, concentration, creativity, decision-making, and motivation.
- Technical and physical skills: Assessment of your soccer abilities and fitness level.
WIA'S PHILOSOPHY ON PLAYER PLACEMENT
Our technical coaches will individually determine each player’s placement, ensuring the best fit for their development and the team. The placement of players is based on a variety of variables:
- Soccer Age: A combination of the player’s physical maturity, technical skills, and overall understanding of the game.
- Physical Development: Consideration of the player’s current stage of physical growth, which is naturally fluid and evolving.
- Team Dynamics: How a player fits within a team’s chemistry and needs.
- Biological Age: A player may be placed with their biological age group or in a different group based on their soccer age.
Parents and players must understand the following as it relates to the Skill Centre and WIA Teams. WIA:
- Cannot enroll more players than the player-to-coach ratio allows
- Cannot turn away players who show promise just because they are inexperienced at the present moment
- Cannot accurately predict the potential or future performance of a player
- Can develop and support players who are ready and willing to train, follow our standards-based training methods and trust our judgement as it relates to their development
